From paper picking lists to full inventory management – Lekekassen is live with InStock WMS
In September, Lekekassen took a big step forward in the development of its warehouse in Grimstad.
After many years of strong growth and manual routines, paper picking lists are history. Now the flow of goods is managed with InStock WMS from iSYS.
From family business to one of Norway's largest online stores
The history of Lekekassen stretches back a long way in the Norwegian toy industry. The online initiative began in 2013, and since then development has been rapid.
Lekekassen has grown from a Norwegian online store to a Scandinavian e-commerce player with Lekekassen.no in Norway, Toyspace.se in Sweden and Toyspace.dk in Denmark. Today, several hundred thousand orders are shipped each year from the head office and warehouse in Grimstad.
Lekekassen is currently owned by Europris, but the business is still run from Grimstad – with a strong focus on efficient operations, low prices and fast deliveries.
And it was precisely this growth that meant the warehouse had to take a new step.
When paper is no longer good enough
It is entirely possible to run a warehouse with relatively simple routines. Orders come in, picking lists are printed, and employees find the goods to be shipped.
It works – until the volumes, storage, and complexity become large enough.
Lekekassen has a warehouse of 21,000 square meters and a business with great variations throughout the year. Not least during Black Week and Christmas, activity increases sharply.
Nevertheless, much of the warehouse work was based on manual routines and picking lists on paper.
As your business grows, these workflows become increasingly difficult to scale. It becomes more important to know exactly where the item is, which order should be picked first, how to make the picking route as efficient as possible – and what is actually in stock right now.
Lekekassen therefore wanted to move from manual warehouse processes to a more comprehensive and digital warehouse management.
The choice fell on InStock WMS .
From picking list to controlled flow of goods
With InStock WMS, the warehouse becomes an integrated and managed part of the digital order process.
Instead of an employee receiving a printed picking list and having to plan the work themselves, InStock can manage tasks digitally and provide the warehouse operator with the information needed throughout the process.
This provides better control over, among other things:
goods receipt and warehouse placement
locations and actual inventory
digital picking assignments
efficient picking routes
checking and scanning of goods
packing and preparation for shipment
traceability throughout the warehouse process
The result is less dependence on manual routines and a much better basis for handling large order volumes efficiently.
A WMS should function when the pressure is greatest
For an e-commerce player like Lekekassen, inventory management is about much more than knowing how many items are in stock.
The warehouse is a crucial part of the customer experience.
When a customer presses "buy", a physical process begins that ends with the right product quickly reaching the right customer. Systems, people and product flow must work together.
And the solution must be sized for those days when the order volume is far higher than normal.
This is precisely where a modern WMS will really make a difference.
Ready for further growth
In September, Lekekassen went live with InStock WMS.
For us at iSYS, this marks the end of one part of the project – but the start of the most important one: the daily use of the solution.
Lekekassen has moved from paper picking lists and manual routines to a digital platform for inventory management that can be further developed together with the business.
It provides better control today, but perhaps even more importantly: a foundation that makes it possible to continue growing without warehouse processes becoming the bottleneck.
