Artificial intelligence is opening up new opportunities in commerce, logistics, and automation. With AI agents and technologies like Model Context Protocol (MCP), we can retrieve information, analyze data, and perform tasks across systems in completely new ways. But the more responsibility we give AI, the more important it becomes to control data, business rules, and decisions.
At iSYS, we develop solutions that combine established business processes with new AI capabilities. The goal is to make systems smarter and more accessible, without compromising predictability, security, and control.
Deterministic rules meet artificial intelligence
Traditional business systems are largely based on deterministic rules. This means that the same assumptions and rules always produce the same result.
A customer should receive the correct contract price, inventory transactions should follow defined rules, and orders should be processed according to the business's terms and conditions.
Generative AI works differently. It is probabilistic and can understand questions, interpret information, identify connections, and suggest solutions. But it can also make mistakes or draw conclusions based on flawed evidence.
AI provides flexibility and intelligence. Deterministic rules provide predictability and control.
It is the combination that creates value.
AI should not be the business's source of truth
An AI agent can help customers find products, check availability, and suggest alternatives. But pricing, inventory, and customer terms must come from the systems that actually manage this information.
As AI gains access to more and more systems, data quality, access control, and clear accountability become even more important.
AI can help detect anomalies, improve data quality, and streamline work processes. But it is still up to the business to define what is correct, what rules apply, and who can make changes.
Built for interaction between AI and business systems
At iSYS, we do not see AI as a replacement for traditional business systems, but as a further development of how we use them.
Our solutions cover various parts of the business's value chain:
feed® PIM provides structure, quality and control over product information.
InStock WMS handles warehouse processes, inventory and product flow.
loop® OMS handles order processes and associated business rules.
breeze connects systems and services through integrations and automated processes.
These solutions are being developed to be able to interact with AI and new agent-based services, while still managing the underlying data and business processes in a controlled manner.
Through MCP, AI agents can utilize available services to retrieve information, compile data, and suggest or initiate actions across systems.
This does not mean that the need for traditional integrations will disappear. The integrations will still ensure reliable information flow, while AI opens up more flexible ways to use the same services.
From information to action – with people in control
It's one thing to let AI answer questions. It's another to let AI perform actions that affect your business' data and processes.
Therefore, Human-in-the-Loop, where humans control and approve actions before they are carried out, is an important principle in our approach.
AI can suggest changes to product information, identify inventory discrepancies, or prepare order actions. But execution must still follow business rules, access controls, and necessary approval processes.
Future systems must be both intelligent and reliable
AI and MCP will change how people and systems communicate. Some tasks and interfaces will be simplified or replaced, but the need for quality-assured data, business logic, and reliable integrations remains.
At iSYS, we continue to build on this foundation, while also facilitating new technologies and forms of interaction.
It's about preserving what needs to be predictable, while opening up what can be smarter.
